Benjamin had twelve children and they all appear to be the children of his second wife. See IGI.

1860 Census, Franklin, Decatur, Iowa. Benjamin is age 3.

1870 Census, Franklin, Decatur, Iowa. Benjamin is age 13, a farm laborer.

In 1880 Ben was living in Burrell, Decatur, Iowa, with his parents. His wife was Millie Ann, age 16. In 1870 there is a Millie Ann Cooper, age 6, dau of Thomas Cooper and Mary in Ringgold, Monroe, Iowa. Possible wife. The Parmelia Smith marriage and children have to be wrong.

On Ancestry web site Ben is said to have married 1879 in Missouri, Parmelia Ellen Smith.

There is something wrong with the information on the IGI and Censuses. I think we have two different people.

From the book, The Hoffstatter Family History, by Barbara Norris Smith. Wilbur and Clifford were twins. Wilbur was killed in an automobile accident. He was twenty-four years old. He and his brother William went out for a ride in William's Ford roadster before retiring for the night. They went over a small embankment and Wilbur was pinned underneath the wreckage and slowly choked to death. William was able to get out and with the help of some others who came along they lifted the car, but by this time Wilbur was too weak to move and died. Before he died he said to his brother, "Bid, this is the last time we will ride together." Wilbur was a farmer and stock byer in Perry Township. He and Clifford are buried side by side in the Valley View Cemetery at Warsaw, Ohio. Neither one had ever married.

1860 Census, Agency City, Wapello, Iowa. Rosa was 2 years old.

Rosa crossed the plains in 1864 at the age of 6 with her mother, two sisters and brother George. They joined their father who had made the trip two years before. She remembered a cousin of hers saying as they were in the wagon train, "Oh, see the horses with horns." Eliza would hide the children in the wagon under blankets whenever there was an Indian scare. Rosa remembered an old pockmarked Indian at Walla Walla who used to hang around the cabin and tell the children stories about the Whitman massacre in which he had participated.

Eliza and James got a cabin next door to a saloon which housed prostitutes. The children were watrched with great care there by their parents.

Rosa attended Notre Dame Academy at Baker and graduated in 1880. She worked her way through school and paid for her music lessons there. She was ever grateful to the sisters at the academy for their many kindnesses to her. Following graduation, she taught school at Clarks Creek and Malheur, Oregon in Baker County. She married James Morfitt at Clarksville, at the home of W. H. Buckland by William Curtis, J. P. They made their home at a sawmill near Malheur and when that venture ended she and James ranched at Malheur where they lived for 33 years and where they bought other property and built up a large cattle interest.

Rosa taught her son Frank and her daughter Gertrude, as well as her granddaughter, Lucile Morfitt, to play the piano. When Lucile stayed with her, Rosa used to get Lucile up early in the morning and make her practice.

in the 1880 census Rosa's name is spelled Hostetter, Baker. She was 20 B. IA.

1900 Census, Malheur, Malheur, OR. Rosa was 41, Md. 1st age 18, b. Aug 1858. Had birthed four children, three living.

Rosa is buried at Morris Hill Cemetery in Boise, Idaho. Biographical information from the time she was married until her death can be seen in the autobiography of her husband James Morfitt.

223 Birth: Mar. 19, 1922 Lexington Fayette County Kentucky, USA Death: Dec. 29, 1998 Wickenburg Maricopa County Arizona, USA; The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ
January 6, 1999, p. 14; Edna Lee Hostetler of Wickenburg passed away peacefully at home early Tuesday morning, December 29, 1998. She was 76. Mrs. Hostetler was born March 19, 1922 in Lexington, Kentucky and had lived in Arizona for 12 years, coming from California. Mrs. Hostetler and her husband Jim moved to Wickenburg from Orange County, California in 1986. She had been courageously battling respiratory illness for several years. She is survived by her husband Jim; sister, Leona De Venny of Covington, Kentucky and her three children and seven grandchildren. Her children include Sandra Knox of Castle Rock, Colorado with her husband Duane, and her daughters Cherise Parkham and Michelle Colonna; son Jim Jr. of Raleigh, North Carolina, with his wife Paula and their son Jamie and daughters Heidi and Caroline Nicole Hostetler; and son Gregg of Everett, Washington, with his wife Melissa and their daughters Amanda and Amy Hostetler. Edna Hostetler will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, a beloved mother, a very special grandmother, a strongly spiritual woman, a very giving and truly caring person and a dear friend to many. Blessed are those who had the opportunity to know her. She was an avid letter-writer and was particularly fond of roses. In the minds of her children, Mrs. Hostetler's only real regret, her most personal unfinished work, was that she did not live quite long enough to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary.A family service was held for Edna on December 31 at Frey Funeral Home in Wickenburg. The service was officiated by Padre Dan Gerrard. Family members from coast to coast attended. She will be laid to rest locally. Contributions can be made to In-Home Health Hospice Care, 2019 W.
