Huffstutter, Richard C. "Dick"
age 88 passed away peacefully at Hospice of the Valley Care Center in Sun City, AZ with many of his family members present at his bedside. Dick was born on March 3, 1920 in Tonquin, OR the youngest of two sons of Ray and Mabel Huffstutter. He played many sports during his youth and remained a fan of the L.A. Dodgers and the U.S.C. Trojans until his death. He served a distinguished career in the Merchant Marines during World War II, primarily in the South Pacific. After his service, he began the partnership of Southern Cities Plumbing in Bellflower, California. On December 7, 1946, he married the love of his life, Nina Folmar, in Las Vegas, NV and they were happily married for 62 years until his death. For many years during those years after the service and during his early marriage, he played semi-pro baseball in Southern California while Nina was the official scorekeeper for his team. In 1964 , Dick, Nina and their children moved to Oregon where Dick formed another partnership of Reinhardt Plumbing in Newberg, OR. He retired in 1982 when he and Nina moved to Sun City, AZ. He was an avid golfer and was very proud of his low handicap. He was a voracious reader of books and particularly enjoyed the works of Charles Dickens. He loved to write short stories of which many were published. He loved music and especially enjoyed opera and classical music. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. His family never tired of listening to the stories of his youth, his sporting accomplishments, his service adventures and his life in general. Even though his family realizes that he lived a long, full and happy life, they mourn his passing and miss him every day. In addition to Nina, Dick is survived by his brother John of East Wenatchee, WA, daughter Louise Sinner of Sun City, AZ, son Ray Huffstutter of McMinnville, Or, daughter Rebecca Hennessy of Surprise, AZ, Vivian Huffstutter of McMinnville, OR, Teri Huffstutter of Stuart, FL, as well as 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A private memorial to be attended by his family and dear friends will be held on February 28, 2009 in Sun City, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Dick's name be made to Hospice of the Valley. A Memorial service will be held at Sunland Chapel and Mortuary in Sun city on 2/28/09 at 11am. -
