Darryl Jones wrote May 20, 2015---An interesting bit of history. In the 1830 Jackson County, MO Census, William Baxter, Sr, William Baxter, Jr, John R. Swearingen and Jeremiah Burns are all listed. Also listed is Francis Choteau. I believe this is Francois Choteau, considered the founder of Kansas City. He founded a trading post at the intersection of the Missouri and the Kaw (Kansas) River about 1821. His family also founded St. Louis.
