Carlise Mercury, Nicholas County,KYJanuary 4,1940Mr. Charles C. Skeen, well known farmer, died Monday night at his home near East Union following an illness of almost a year. He was born in Russell County,VA Januray 16,1866, the son of David A. and Nancy Rasnick Skeen.At a early age he moved with his parents to Fleming County. He served in the U.S Army in the Spanish-Amercian war.Mr.Skeen was twice married. His first wife Miss Rowena Everton and to the union were born two children, Mrs. M.O Conn of Wilmore and Mrs. W.F Hellard,of Lexington, who survide. On March 15,1904 he was married to Miss Annie E. Brierly. To this union were born seven children, all whom survive as follows: Mrs. Rebecca Grimes, Mrs. Nancy Gaunce, Harlan, Leonard,Elmer and Marvin Skeen all of Nicholas County and Robert Skeen of Dayton,KY. One sister, Mrs John Fetters of Lewis County and 18 grandchildren also survive.He was a memeber of Christian Church at Ruddles Mills and of the Masonic lodge aat Carlise. Funeral services were held at the garve in Carlise cemetery Wedsday afternoon with Masonic services conducted by Daughtery Lodge. |
