Edward Gregory Hon, 93, died after living with cancer for four years, on Sunday, May 13, 2012.
He was born in Duluth on May 5, 1919. He was married to Evelyn Hon on May 21, 1978.
Edward served his country in World War II. He was a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division's 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, which jumped deep into France on D-Day. He was one of 12 jumpers from his company of 150+ that were able to complete their tours of duty, having served in the Battle of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. Once retired from the Armed Forces, Edward was employed with Western Electric until his retirement in 1979.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Altamae Hon; sister Francis Hipp; brother Paul Hon Sr.; sister Gertrude "Sr. Rosalia" Hon; and granddaughter Julie Bierly.
He is survived by his loving wife Evelyn Hon; sister Rosalia (George) Matyn and brother Carl Hon Jr.; children Gregory (Kathleen Hon, Cynthia (Steven) Gramm, Sandra (Michael) Bierly, Steven (Laura) Hon, Edward (Alece) Hon; Evelyn's children Paul (Katherine) Hon Jr., James (Kathleen) Hon, David (Judy) Hon, Mary (Woody) Skafte, Thomas Hon Sr., Barbara (Arthur) Levesque, Ann Marie (John) Mellin, and Sue Ann (Rick) Seitz; 39 grandchildren; and 35 great grandchildren.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Duluth with a visitation at 9 a.m.
