- From the book, The Hoffstatter Family History, by Barbara Norris Smith. Harriet was found paralyzed and unconscious in her home in West Bedford, Ohio on Sunday morning, October 11, 1914. She died there a week later on Sunday, October 18th at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. She was sixty-eight years old. Her funeral was held the following Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the West Bedford M. E. Church, with Rev. Clark officiating. Burial was in the West Bedford cemetery next to her first husband, Absolom Hughs. Stephen Underwood had died several years earlier.
